NEBRASKA TAXPAYERS FOR FREEDOM WORKSHEET:

THUMBS DOWN SIGN FOR THE 39: STATE SENATORS WHO VOTED TO INCREASE OUR STATE GAS TAX.

BACKGROUND.  Nebraskans now are paying about $4 per gallon for gas at the service station pump.  Our state gas tax, already the 7th highest in the nation and higher than in every adjacent state, will rise to 27c per gallon on July 1, 2008.  39 state senators voted for this gas tax hike in LB 959.  Term limits thankfully will rid the Legislature of some of these senators, but others are standing for re-election this year or in 2010.  See table below:

TAKE ACTION NOW.  Determine if your current state senator voted for the gas tax hike and is running for re-election.  If he/she voted against taxpayers, volunteer to help his/her opponent win election to the state legislature in November.  Lobby your new or current state senator to lower the state gas tax, after the Legislature convenes in January, 2009.  Contact us at netaxpayers@cox.net to obtain a copy of our NTF issue paper on the state gas tax.  Use this information to help you lobby.
